What materials can I use with the fret saws?

The fretsaw is primarily used to cut wood. It is ideal for cutting thin plywood, up to 12mm thick. Never cut MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) on the fretsaw. It creates fine dust which can cause damage to lungs.

The fretsaw can also be used to cut thin plastics such as acrylic and polycarbonate. Unlike the laser cutter, the fretsaw will leave a rough edge on the plastic. These rough edges will not glue together properly. If plan to glue the object together it should be cut on the laser cutter.

Sheet material is ideal for the fretsaw. It is not possible to cut round and irregular shaped material, such as tree branches. The bandsaw or a handsaw should be used instead.
